Not functioning

I was surfing around yesterday and all of the sudden I couldn't do anything. Explorer works fine but firebird just won't work. Everytime I try to open it now a screen pops up and asks about a user profile. I click on the default but it won't work. I don't want to loose all of my settings how can it be fixed?

Assuming you're on 2K/XP, open Task Manager and make sure no copy of MozillaFirebird.exe is running. Then go to your profile folder and delete the file "parent.lock" if it exists.

There is no firebird application running and I don't have that file in my profile. Yes XP.
