Can I move bookmarks to My Documents?

Post by Cantabile »

hihi. Can I find out from other users here if I can move my bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox to My Documents? The bookmarks are stored in c:/program files/mozilla firefox/defaults/profile/bookmarks.html. I'm wondering if i can move this .html file to My Documents and it can still work. For example, for internet explorer, the default Favourites folder is in c: but i move it to My Documents and it still works perfectly fine. new bookmarks are added to the folder directly and existing bookmarks can also be accessed from the browser directly. Can Mozilla Firefox do the same? I want to move them to My Documents so that I have an easier time backing up my files. Thanks very much for any replies.

You can change your bokkmarks.html file location with the browser.bookmarks.file preference. See:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries

Scroll down to "browser.bookmarks.file".

This explains how to add preferences via "about:config":

No, they are not stored there: the files in that folder are template files to create new profiles.
Your profile folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Start > Run: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Browse to the xxxxxxxx.default profile folder.
See: Profile Folder

Be careful if you move your bookmarks and keep a backup of them.
