Ed,
Have you reported this problem as a bug? I searched at BugZilla, but didn't find a new bug yet... I see reports of this problem on other Forums, so it must truly be a bug.

There must be an invisible color on certain monitors. I already asked. Twice. A patch has been reviewed and is awaiting superreview. Look here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 21#2769421 .

Question for Deviouz
Deviouz, I just now followed your advice for just one of my entries in signs2.txt and then reopened FX, hoping to see that one website in the Passwords Manager, but it didn't show. Did I miss something in your instructions???

FxUser,
This is the Bug that was reported before I updated to 2.0.0.2, so I didn't report it myself.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371525
alicekay,
Maybe you made the same mistake that I made (repeatedly), I left (or inserted) a blank line where it didn't belong!
Those blank lines between entries in the list of UN/PWs for one domain need to be overwritten with the domain name (so the blank line is gone), and you have to be careful not to leave any blank lines between the different domains.
Editing of the signons2.txt file is not something that "normal" users should be expected to do, and over-tired users who are experienced at messing with the innards of Firefox are bound to make simple mistakes the first time they attempt to edit that file! (That's the excuse I am sticking with, so don't ask.)
RE: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371525#c22
I haven't tried it yet, but I do have one more Firefox installation and Profile combination to sacrifice to the cause of finding and verifying a simple answer to this Bug.
Comment 22 doesn't work for me as evidenced by Comment 23!
Ed

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

That advice in:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371525#c22 "
is not working for me. I have testet it two times with differend profiles without succes.
But python script earlier in this thread works:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 38#2770738
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fi; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2 - Build ID: 2007021917
EDIT: Oops, didn't notice, that you had tested that already.

Check in about:config and make sure that the signon.prefillForms preference is set to "true".
The workaround given in bug 371525 comment 22 (hitting the reload button after the username is entered) does work for me, as long as I have "signon.prefillForms" set to "true".
I found a site where I had two passwords saved before the switch to signons2.txt, which now shows 2 USERID/PASSWORD entris but only one URL:
.
http://www.nytimes.com
USERID
MDoEEPgAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEwFAYIKoZIhvcNAwcECOWyLWchmdj8BBBX5DdxxZEmxpYvdtjDemGr
*PASSWORD

*PASSWORD
MDoEEPgAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEwFAYIKoZIhvcNAwcECIsU9ETvVRBCBBAGs70nLam9yScvXBebRBNN
I double-clicked in the username field, selected one of my userIDs to be entered and saw the bug: the password was not filled in. I hit the reload button and that worked, filling in password after the page reloaded.
I didn't log in, though and instead I tried again, but this time, I went to about:config and changed the signon.prefillForms preference to false. This time the workaround failed. Then I reset the preference, selected a username and hit the reload button to have Firefox fill in the password, logged in and the signons2.txt file now has the http://www.nytimes.com URL entered where needed:

Multiple password problem
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right location to report bugs for firefox, but I just want to confirm that I'm experiencing this problem as well. I would humbly suggest that a bug of this severity should justify an immediate patch release (rather than forcing a wait of 4-5 weeks for another minor release).
Here's what I've noticed:
When a site has multiple usernames/passwords associated with it:
-sometimes entering a username doesn't trigger a password to be entered automatically
-sometimes entering a username causes a password to be entered automatically, however, very often it is the _wrong_ password
It seems that removing the password from the password list, and then manually logging into the site and 'remembering' the pw again solved the problem for me.
Lastly, thanks to the firefox developers for a great product--although I'm not happy with this regression, firefox is a great piece of work.

Rustymonkey,
Mozilla doesn't issue releases on any kind of schedule. They release whenever necessary, and when they are satisfied that a problem has been solved. I expect that they probably are contemplating another update for this one. A patch has already passed the first review for version 2.0.0.2.

Downgrading would require to undo the changes made in signons2.txt:Alice wrote:Note that downleveling to Firefox 1.5.0.9 or Firefox 2.0.0.1 or earlier is not a solution, as the passwords that now exist in the signons2.txt will be unavailable. See:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369969
All passwords are not available to downlevel versions of 2.0/1.5 after upgrade
* Rename or Copy signons2.txt to signons.txt
* Change the exception header ID at the beginning fom #2d to #2c
* Remove all the extra lines (empty or with an url) below each password

Doesn't the password exporter extension work for saving passwords anymore?

dickvl wrote:You need to export the passwords in the Fx 2.0.0.2 version and they must show in the Password Manager (Show Passwords) for that to work.
If you already have uninstalled Fx 2.0.0.2 and notice that afterwards then that won't help you.
Thanks for trying to explain, but I don't understand a word of this.
Are you familiar with the password exporter extension, which saves usernames and passwords as an xml file? Are you telling me that the password bug has rendered it useless?
