this is really getting frustrating....

I have tried to change my firefox homepage by going to Tools, options, and then entering a new address. My new homepage works for the remainder of that session, but once I close the browser window and restart firefox, the default homepage continues to load. I do not have this problem with IE.

I have scanned my computer, gotten rid of all viruses, and uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. Still no luck.

What sort of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.

Set up your desired home page again, then look at the prefs.js file in your profile. Find the line in it where that home page is set up. It looks like this:
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://www.whatever.com/");

Make a user.js file and copy that line into it. Save it in the same directory with the prefs.js file. That way, the home page should stick.
