Stop The Annoying Vibrant In-Text Advertising
Is there a way to stop the little In-Text popups when you hover your cursor over a word?
For example, I like to read the news articles at AfterDawn.com
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/10289.cfm
I have a habit of using the cursor as I read. When the cursor hits any of the double underlined words, a popup appears. (UGH!)
I am noticing these little popups more and more lately on other sites as well.

A couple of ways
1/ See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=564454
2/ Adblock Plus - Try the EasyList and EasyElement filters, this will block the vibrant ads and many other ads.

Think for yourself. Otherwise you have to believe what other people tell you.

I only got the ads by disabling NoScript and AdBlock for that page..... Doesn't it give you a warm smug feeling to think of all those IE users who can't turn these annoyances off....

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THOSE!!!!
Those text-popups are always a priority for me when I add to the EasyList when I go surfing (and thanks for the kudos guys ). I'm sure many others besides myself use the mouse pointer like a finger in a book. To have a stupid window keep popping up over the text I'm trying to read is worse than 10 flash ads on a page ... at least graphical ads don't block the page text.
The EasyList should kill ALL those.

You can also suppress them with code in userContent.css
These are the ones I've seen so far on different websites.
(don't use the text at the begin of the line, only the text starting with '#')
You can use the ChromEdit Plus extension for easier editing the userContent.css file.

Code: Select all
AdBrite : #adbrite_inline_div {display: none !important;}
AdvertBanner: #AdvertBanner {display: none !important;}
Amazon : #amzn-popup-div {display: none !important;}
echotopic : #tf_AdDiv {display: none !important;}
IntelliTXT : #iTt {display: none !important;}
Kontera : #konaLayers {display: none !important;}
Vibrant : #tooltipBox {display: none !important;}
Yahoo : #menuModule {display: none !important;}
?? : #lwPreview {display: none !important;}
google ads : iframe[src*="googlesyndication"] {display: none !important'}
m2.2mdn.net : iframe[src*="m2.2mdn.net"] {display: none !important'}

I've got Adblock Plus with EasyList and EasyElement filters subscription. How do I stop Lingospot?

You could send a Private Message to rick752, as he runs the Easy List, telling him the URLs of the offenders....
Or you could post this on the AdBlock Plus Forum... http://adblockplus.org/forum/

You could add Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper 1.0.5 extension from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364 which will add the ability to Adblock Plus to easily filter that out with a Right - click. Then you have to navigate the page you are viewing with the mouse until the offending graphic is outlined in red and click on it. A requestor will come up with a filter to add(which can be modified). I use it on Yahoo quite a bit.

Thanx stevie. The op has contacted me and this problem was resolved and will be added to the EasyList in about an hour from the time of this post.
