Firefox not showing titles on mouse over

Post by cbrian13 »

I have firefox 2. When I mouse over a link that should have a title popping up to tell me about it, nothing happens. It does on IE and firefox on my other computer.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Vanilla Firefox doesn't do that. There's a Firefox extension that does something like that. Perhaps it's installed on your other computer.

I've seen a handful of sites that do that on their own. As for extensions, I think McAfee's Site Advisor does, but Site Advisor gives security info. I have CoolIris preview, which opens the link in a drop-down, but not just on mouse-over. You have to get the tip of your pointer on a little blue square. If you're interested, it's here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2207

sorry, i wasn't very clear. i go to a message board where if you mouse-over a topic, the first couple words of the message pop up to let me know what its about. when i say pop up, i mean in HTML it would be like <a title="Preview of the message">. it works on all browsers/computers except for firefox on this computer. it used to work, though.

Using the title attribute that way should work (it work for me with your above 'failure' post).

You can create a test profile as a quick test to check if it is caused by your current profile:
Standard diagnostic: Create a new (test) profile
(only enter a name for the new profile, do not click "Choose Folder" to specify a location)

I also have this issue (no tooltip), even in elements that are supposed to always have title attributes, e.g.

<abbr title="this is an acronym">foo</abbr>

Using WinXP and Firefox 2.0.0.6

Do you see a tooltip while hovering the icon to the left of Posted on this forum (New post)?

Do you have tooltips enabled? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.chrome.toolbar_tips
