After installing FF3, a whole big list of incompatible extensions came up and my heart sank. FF3 disabled them, of course. But the check for updates found seven of them automatically, taking care of about half the list.

Now, here's the good news! I was able to find updates for all but two of the remaining extensions!!!! They're not all at the Firefox Mozilla add-ons site. I found them through reading the comments at the add-ons site and/or following links to the author's sites. And Google helped me find a couple too. If you have any kind of a backup list of your extensions, like InfoLister, that also took me directly to the source for some of them.

Only two extensions proved problematic. I couldn't find an update for a TinyURL add-on which puts a Create TinyURL in the right click. So I've had to settle for dragging the shortcut to the TinyURL site into my toolbar. When needed, I'll have to create it there.

The one I'm really going to miss and haven't found an update or substitute for is LinkVisitor. It added a right click function to mark links as visited and unvisited. Visited links already change color in FF without it. But I used this addon at forums to highlight some forum categories that I couldn't remove from the view new posts since last visit.

For example, a couple of help forums have HiJackThis Sections and only trained helpers can reply in those. The rest of us are blocked out from replying. So I would mark that section as read, and it made scrolling through my list of new posts easier. Now here's where I'll miss the "mark unvisited" option. Sometimes I will go directly to another subforum, ie "Hardware". Well, now I've got HiJackThis and Hardware changed to red. And so I'm left with no way to change Hardware back to unvisited so it's not highlighted in my view new posts list, unless I clear my History and start fresh. That would probably do it, but that's not really a solution. Bummer.

But I have to say overall, I was very surprised at how relatively well it has all gone. I'm happy with the new theme. It's close enough to my old Winstripe Classic. And FF3 picked up all my custom toolbar tweaks, etc.

Does anyone know if Permatabs will be updated or if there is another add on that does the same thing? The developer's home page is "under development" and googling yielded nothing for me. TIA

Chris,
This is the support thread for that extension:
viewtopic.php?t=587171

It looks like Permatabs did work partially back in Firefox3.0b4
viewtopic.php?p=3306777#p3306777

I am gonna guess that unless some capable user "adopts" that extension and updates it for Firefox 3, that it will remain abandoned.

^^ I'd drop the author a friendly email asking when his addon might be ready... Don't sound too demanding :)
The Tabs system was altered quite significantly, so a major rewrite might have been necessary.

Have a look around to see if another addon will do the job in the interim....

^^^ There may be a GreaseMonkey script or Stylish style out there do do the same function as LinkVisitor..

I can only help you with one, Unplug. The developer hasn't been keeping up with the changes, so I switched to VideoDownloadHelper. As a matter of fact, I like it a lot better than Unplug!

This is a *temporary* solution for FF3 incompatible extensions:

BUT..... If the systems the Extensions rely upon have changed, then the extension will not work, and may crash Firefox, and could lose you data.

Before attempting to bump extensions, Back up your Profile.....

Also DO NOT Bump Themes. Firefox 2 Themes DO NOT work on Firefox 3.

I'm getting errors now when I try to go to any of the "We Recommend" or "Most Popular" links on the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox addons page.

Trying to install "PicLens" gives me an error that it can't install it due to "corruption" of the download file.

If it is not NTT, then it's another one. Mr Tech has an extension that does that, too.
