I am new to both Firefox and MozillaZine, so apologies if this appears in the wrong area. I have downloaded the add-on NoScript to Firefox. Opening up Firefox today I was asked to download the latest update to NoScript: "You are strongly encouraged to upgrade manually to latest stable version (1.8.3.6)"

I then got: “Firefox prevented this site (noscript.net) from asking you to install software on your computer.” - I pressed the "Allow" button.

I then got: “Only install add-ons from authors whom you trust.”
“You have asked to install the following item: noscript-1.8.3.6.xpi (Author not verified)”

I am worried that as Firefox (I presume) cannot verify the author of an add-on which is highly recommended in the press, it is not safe to load.

I would be grateful for advice/observations, please. Thank you.

In this instance, feel free to download the upgrade. NoScript is a trustworthy add-on. I've been using it for quite some time and find it very useful. It will take some getting used to. Be patient and read the information on the author's site for tips. If you give it some time and get used to it, I think you'll love it!

All extensions (I am pretty sure) will give this warning. There is currently no process in place to verify the author of extensions. IMO, someone really ought to be given a dunce cap for this silliness.

It may be that because I'm using "Mr. Tech toolkit" add-on that I never get the message. I do all my validation research prior to my initial download/install of an add-on and then when I open up my extension manager (I guess somewhat controlled by Mr. Tech add-on...maybe I checked something off in it to not display that message...anyway) I just click on the "Search for updates"...if it finds any it displays which ones and then I click on the "install updates". Because I've researched the original add-on's "trust value" I just install updates if it finds any.....Works great, works fine.

I don't see that warning when NoScript updates. I'm guessing that you may have gotten the extension from the NoScript Web site instead of from the Firefox menu or from addons.mozilla.org . The NoScript Web site is not an official update site, and I'm not sure whether updates are secured with SSL. In this case I think you would get a warning. (How do you know you have really contacted NoScript directly, and not some middle man that is adding malware?)

Having said that, the NoScript Web site is quite trusted, and there probably is not really a problem in this instance, but it's best not to ignore warnings. It might be a little safer to uninstall the extension and reinstall it through the add-ons menu, if you did not do this.

It's possible you have found some Mac-specific behavior, but I suspect not.

Hi experts out there!

I encountered a problem using the Zotero and NoScript addons.

NoScript appears to block access to specific webpage elements that are required by zotero translators for retrieving and saving bibliographic information.

Example: Bibliographic information on the page

cannot be stored by zotero tranlators.
The following error message results: "Permission denied to get property HTMLDocument.location"

although Scripts and XSS are allowed for the sciencedirect.com website.

If I deactivate NoScript completely, zotero works fine.
But this is, of course, not an acceptable solution.

What page elements might be blocked by NoScript?
Can you give advice how to solve the problem?

There is a brand new application that encrypts wi-fi transmissions in public wi-fi areas. It is Hotspot Shield, from Anchorfree.com. In order to run. Javascript must be enabled for all websites. Busted by Noscript! Is it possible to put in application exceptions for an application like this?

Here is something funny. On myspace No script works really well. However I found out that there is a way to hide java script behind a whole image of a web page like this

The image of the whole page is substitue for a real web page when i look at the page it self it tells me ther is a java script incvloved. Here is a what the page saif when i tried to veiw it's source, (Properties)
