I did everything recommended above, but now when the WMP stream in Launch.com attempts to play a video, it just says "Ready" and won't actually play.

I don't know how much more detailed I can get. I gave the link: Launch.com. Any music video on there I try to watch won't work. It used to say I needed Netscape 4.7 or 7.1 or something, but now it actually gets to the player for the video and then all of a sudden dies on me. It loads, buffers, then just gets stuck in "Ready" no matter what I do or click.

If anyone else here uses Yahoo Launch to watch music videos with Firefox, can you help me?

Well, like I said, the problem occurs with any music video I try to play on the site, but just for kicks: http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/default. ... ID=1006316 (Click "End of the World" under videos.)

Are you sure you didn't install any plugins??

Yes, I'm sure.
I havn't installed the activex plugin.
I use some other plugins with firefox, ie

SpoofStick for Mozilla
QuickNote
User Agent Switcher
Toolbar Enhancemant

but I don't use the activex plugin.

Hi to all,
Ok, it should be a serious security risk.
Until now I haven't any experiences with crashes and freezes on some pages. Maybe it is about, that surf only a few hours per day.

Ok, I haven't used the sides just for testing. There are many other out there in the web.

ok, i tried it and it works for me.... perhaps u don't have the proper codec installed on your machine (does it play in IE??)

Vectorspace wrote:How does one get npdsplay.dll installed??
the one i use is at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... lugin.aspx
u can unzip it put the npdsplay.dll ( & npwmsdrm.dll) in your plugins folder. or u can reinstall WMP 7.1/9.0 read more info here http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html#WMP.

For clarity the npdsplay.dll is the official WMP plugin for Netscape (moz/ff) and uses the regular plugin architecture to hand off playing Microsoft media files such as Wma wmv asf asx (note while WMP CAN play mp3's au wav the plugin will NOT hand it off to WMP)
the activex plugin is actually a generic plugin which allows almost any activeX control to be hosted including WMP Flash and other stuff (that why it recommended to set it to to only host WMP through the activex.js).
On these pages
http://nunzioweb.com/streaming_audio-example.htm
http://home.att.net/~wymette/files/m3Utest.html since they a crossbrowser compatible, having EITHER the (activex plugin) npmozax.dll OR (non-activeX) npdsplay.dll will allow u to play it....

side note: As far as I remember It is considered a bug/rfe that if 2 plugins can play the same file it so difficult (& sometimes impossible) to specify which plugin takes precedence

Yes, I found this before... But it's in the 'Player 6.4 for Windows 95 & NT' section of the menu, which is why I didn't download it.

Clarification - will re-installing wmp9 install these plugin files, and are they the same as the ones on the page you linked to?

I re-installed WMP9, but it didn't install any plugin files.

I downloaded and installed the exe from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... lugin.aspx and all it did was install npdsplay.dll to C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player. Do I copy it into my plugin directory? And where's npwmsdrm.dll?

u can use winRAR to unzip the exe (which contains the 2 files and some others) and yes just place those 2 files (or at least the npdsplay.dll) in plugin folder
