Downloading message 1 of 4 - But Never Downloads the essage

Thunderbird says downloading message 1 of 4 and the messages just don't download. Green progress bar lit for some time. I created new inbox, deleted msf's etc.

ISP is Cox and other computer and iphones get mail just fine. email Account settings are per Cox and have worked fine until yesterday when Cox's servers went down. Thunderbird version 45.1.1, new program downloaded and same results. Bitdefender is use, tried turning off scanning of inbound messages - same result.

Suggestions?

With Thunderbird closed, remove all references to Thunderbird from the BitDefender permissions list, then restart Thunderbird.

Log onto the web page for that Cox account and delete the oldest message not yet downloaded to Thunderbird.

Also, Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS >SECURITY > PASSWORDS tab> SAVED PASSWORDS button and there you can delete old passwords. Restart Thunderbird to ensure that the stored password is cleared from memory. The next time you "Get Mail" Thunderbird will ask for the password and you can check the box to remember the value.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have determined that the problem is with COX. Their servers went down yesterday and because I received a few emails last night about midnight, I assumed the problem at COX was solved. It wasn't, and still isn't, some 28 hours later. So much for good service on their part.
