This is on Linux Mint 20.3.
Version 91.5.0, first offered to channel users on January 11, 2022
If I prepare an email and press Send, a black dialog box comes up with a title bar showing "Check Spelling", further box showing a number of suspect words, such as "html" and a button marked "Replace". There is no "Cancel" button.
I can only press "Close" from the "File" drop down.

Re: Send/Cancel dialog box comes up Black
So you do a check before sending instead of a spellcheck as you type?
I'd have to reconfigure my 91.5.0 on Fedora 35 to see if I can reproduce.
Currently, using the Beta version and the Spelling and Grammar Checker extension.

My settings have always been to check spellings both during keying text and upon initiating "Send".WaltS48 wrote:So you do a check before sending instead of a spellcheck as you type?

With respect that has absolutely nothing to do with the appearance of the dialogue window which was the point of my query.

I can't reproduce the problem using 91.5.0 under Windows 10. Enabling "check spelling before sending popup" used a "check spelling" popup with a normal light background. Are you using the dark theme?
I didn't see a Cancel button but there is a Stop button that works. Pressing the [X] in the upper right corner also worked.

Has there ever been a cancel button?
If you want one, you will have to file an enhancement bug request.
Tested in my Thunderbird 91.5.0 on Fedora 35, Gnome 41 desktop with both spell check options enabled, and there is no "Cancel" button, just a "Stop" button which closed the dialog window, as did pressing the [X] in the window.
