Use TB 102.0 for Mac. This has been going on for a while. Why do I have several copies of msgFilterRules.dat files in the same email account?

Do all of those files have that same name or are they names with numeric elements to make that unique? If there is a single file named msgFilterRules.dat with no numeric element? Is that file set as read only at the OS level?

I can't post a screen shot of the directory, so I'll copy it manually:

msgFilterRules.dat 5/17/22 20KB ./Thunderbird/Profiles/[myprofile].default/Mail/mail.comcast.net
msgFilterRules.dat 6/29/22 19.9 KB ./Thunderbird/Profiles/[myprofile].default/Mail/mail.comcast-3.net
msgFilterRules.dat Yesterday 20KB ./Thunderbird/Profiles/[myprofile].default/Mail/mail.comcast-2.net
msgFilterRules.dat 2/26/22 19.9KB ./Thunderbird/Profiles/[myprofile].default/Mail/mail.comcast-1.net

I reset all of them to "Read & Write."

That doesn't seem to be four copies of the file in one directory but one msgFilterRules.dat file in each of four separate account directories. How many Comcast accounts are you running in that profile. If it's just one active account, there seems to have been multiple instances of attempts to create the account or some similar cause of duplication of account.

Thanks, DanRaisch. I have two Comcast accounts. I may have duplicated the accounts with my changing from POP to IMAP and back again. Is the Comcast account without the hyphen and number the main account? Do you think I can safely delete the other Comcast accounts?

...only if you can confidently identify which account is which. Best remove the accounts from within Thunderird's UI so you can see which ones you have been using.
