Several left sidebar icons missing

Post by CraigG58 »

Since updating to TB 102.3.2 (64-bit) on Windows 10, after a few sessions several of the left sidebar icons have gone missing:

- Mail
- Calendar
- Tasks

When I hover over them their names are visible, and the buttons do indeed work. However, the locations where the missing icons should be turn into a filled blue square when selected.

I also tried right clicking the sidebar and selecting “Customize > Restore Defaults”, but no joy.

Perhaps a new bug?

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode?

Try testing if an particular addon is causing the issue.

Perhaps the issue is caused by an entry in the <profile folder>\chrome\userChrome.css file. That css file is not created by default.

BTW, I disabled all calendars as a test and restarted. I can still see the Calendar button and Tasks button on startup.

Thanks for the reply!

I haven’t had a problem with TB in so long, I completely spaced trying safe mode. When I did, it did indeed fix the issue

However, the weird thing is after re-starting it again in normal mode, the issue remained resolved. That is, until I restarted it several more times and the problem returned.

The only add-ons I’ve got installed are:

- “CardBook”, something I’d hate to live without since it automatically syncs my Google contact list to TB. It’s version 82.7, updated on 10/04.

- “Check and Send”, which performs several message content checks then confirms the email is ready to be sent. It’s version 2.1.1 and was updated today, so I uninstalled and reinstalled that one.

I then tried disabling both of these via the Add-ons manager and restarting normally. The problem persists, although this time it’s a bit different: Only the TB address book icon displays.

May be a wild guess, but it makes me wonder is there’s some sort of conflict between CardBook and TB’s native address book. I wish there was a way to disable the latter for further troubleshooting, since as a CardBook user I don’t use it anyway.

BTW, the “<profile folder>\chrome\userChrome.css" file does not exist. Should it?

I did not find a CardBook issue about the missing buttons.

CardBook
http://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/addon/634298
http://gitlab.com/CardBook/CardBook/-/issues

Check and Send
http://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/addon/2281

AFAIK, it is not possible to disable the address book.

The userChrome.css file is user created. That file is not created by default.

Workaround: click Hide Spaces Toolbar button on bottom left, use Spaces Menu button on top left instead

That's what I wound up doing, wasn't using the left sidebar anyway... Just an observation for the most part.

Still think there's something funky going on over there.
