Pop account removed: where are its e-mails?

Each folder is stored in its own file (a mbox file).

I don't see how creating a new account resurrects the messages from the deleted account unless there is still a copy of those messages on the POP server.

No, no e-mails on the server (anymore).
- Windows 11 Home, 22H2, 64bit
- newest stable portable Firefox (not beta)
- newest stable portable Thunderbird (not beta)

Then I think you need to use ImportExportTools NG to import the mbox file into a folder in "Local Folders". Afterwards you can move the messages to the IMAP account if you want.
