TB 52.9.1 and OAuth2 for Gmail

I am using Thunderbird 52.9.1 on XPMode (virtual Windows XP) and since some time my OAuth2 Gmail accounts have stopped working: I am requested to enter password and other stuff but then all is stuck into a loop and nothing happens in terms of receiving (IMAP) or sending (SMTP) emails.

I am also well aware that the OS and Thunderbird which I am using are out of date since many years now but, despite this, all was working up to only a handful of months ago and so I was hoping for some "tweaks/workarounds" (simple or advanced) from someone expert to try to keep using that OS and that version of Thunderbird with my Gmail accounts.

Can someone help?

go to: Tools - Options - Advanced - Config editor
And change this to:
general.useragent.compatMode.firefox = true
This will make Thunderbird to mask it's user agent string, so gmail OAuth2 popup works properly..

Restart Thunderbird after changing preference, general.useragent.compatMode.firefox
