how tto "unarchive" an email and also get ridofarchivebutton
I was trying to customize the latest thunderbird in particular get rid of the archive button. I accidentally archived an email and would like to know, how do I get it back? tbird displayed something like moved from inbox to 2023, but I can't find 2023 to move it back.
I would also appreciate knowing how to get rid of that button.
Thank you.

That's too ambiguous to be helpful as there are multiple streams of Thunderbird releases such as Nightly, Beta, Release, each with different version numbers. Look under menu path Help->Troubleshooting Information->Application Basics->Version.I was trying to customize the latest thunderbird
To determine where Thunderbird would move an archived message, look under menu path Tools->Account Settings->Copies & Folders->Message Archives. In that same dialogue you can uncheck the "Keep message archives in" to disable archiving without manual interaction.

On grubbing on the web trying to solve this I saw a remark that IMAP matters somehow. I use POP.

The Account Settings path says the archived messages are kept in the Archives folder on my email address. There is no Archives folder visible.DanRaisch wrote:That's too ambiguous to be helpful as there are multiple streams of Thunderbird releases such as Nightly, Beta, Release, each with different version numbers. There are two troubleshooting options in Help neither of them exactly "troubleshooting information" so I looked in About and it said 102.11.2 (64 bit) release channel.

Hi Karenanne,
I'm not a Thunderbird guru but after checking I found that...
You just create a new folder under whichever Account you want in the main page...
Right click your Account & select "New Folder."
I created one called "Archived Messages" on one of my Accounts. (I only have 2.)
You can then choose that "special" folder from the drop down in "Message Archives" > "Other."
Using the drop down...
You can go to, Acct Settings > Copies & Folders > Message Archives, then select whichever option you require.
I believe that you have to do the above for all Accounts.

I'm not sure but under EDIT, there's an option to UNDO MOVE.
That may return the message.
It did so here after I archived a message & did not stipulate my new Archive Folder.
Perhaps a search for the 2023 folder?
As I mentioned...I am not up on all the Thunderbird OPTIONS/PREFS.
Wait for Dan? to help out.

I don't see an option under edit to undo move. Perhaps there is another edit menu somewhere. I think I will wait and see if Dan knows, lest I screw up things more. Thank you.

Karenanne, it would be helpful if you would post a screenshot of what you see under Tools->Account Settings-Copies & folders.

I know photos would be better but whatever:
copies & folders
.
.
.
message archives
check mark keep archives in
turned on "archives" folder on my email address (this is a drop down menu with choices my two email addresses and localfolder)
not turned on Other greyed out drop down menu
button archive options
here is what is seen when I click on archive options:
when archiving messages place them in
a single folder
turned on yearly archived folders
monthly archived folders
not checked keep existing folder structure of archived messages
example
down arrow archives
indented 2020
indented 2021

The above is consistent with tbird having told me it put the archived email in "2023"

If you don't see an Archive folder in the tree structure for your email account (where your Inbox is), scroll down and look in Local Folders. If you find an Archive folder in Local Folders, double-click it and look for a 2023 subfolder. If that exists, open it, find your email and drag it back to where you want it (Inbox?).karenanne wrote:I accidentally archived an email and would like to know, how do I get it back? tbird displayed something like moved from inbox to 2023, but I can't find 2023 to move it back.

Karenanne,
You said the following... > "not turned on Other greyed out drop down menu."
Not sure what this means...?
Did you try clicking the RADIO Button to select that "OTHER" pref?
See > https://www.mediafire.com/view/qamvinuq ... s.bmp/file
This is the ARCHIVE Folder that I created on both of my Accounts & that is where my selected emails go.
Please re-read what I posted, coz it works.
&...I don't know where the 2023 Archive folder is located, but will try to find it.
ps. Here's the Official sites directions for "How to set up the Archives Folder."

ppps... Success...
I found where the errant ARCHIVED messages go to.
Check here > C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxxx.default-release\Mail\pop3.YOUR ISP.com.au\Archived messages88da89f1.sbd
Not sure how large it will be or if it can be recovered? (The link to the Support Question may help here.)
