Mail folders "$RECYCLE.BIN"

Greetings,
Why is a mail folder search showing folders with the name "$RECYCLE.BIN..."

How can these folder entries be removed?

It looks as though that might reflect a server side folder. How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

It is set up as POP.

If it is seerver side why it the drive letter G: ?
These are large files and I would like to delete them if possible.

The full path for one of them is:

Here are the default profiles. C: is the working disk and G is the back-up disk.

I don't know your set up and some people do run local email servers.

The first suggestion that comes to mind would be to try renaming that file (with Thunderbird closed. Then run Thunderbird and see if you find any problems when copying, moving, or deleting any messages. If after a reasonable trial period you find no issues, it would seem safe to delete the file.

I run Tbird from C: on my laptop.

I get an "Access Denied" error. If I try to rename or open the file.

Have you shut down the computer and rebooted and tried renaming or deleting that file from the OS prior to launching Thunderbird?
