No, it is most definitely NOT dead. A major new release will be out within the next few weeks.

I used to use PayPal but kept getting some bogus charges (or request for funds) on it from things I did not initiate so I cancelled my account with it. I might consider creating a new one if there's no other way to pay for something. Anyway, I still use Thunderbird daily.
