I am running Vista Home Premium and I have been running TB for a year now. For the last two days, I have come across this issue where TB and FF both have stopped responding and when Itry to start the programs by clicking the icons, nothing happens.
I reviewed the forum and here is what i have tried for TB at least:
I am logged in as the admin on my machine.
Looked for the TB process in the Task Manager, but there is no such process there or even for FF.
Tried to look for any profile locks, but I do not see any in the folders in the APPDATA directory.
TB or FF does not start in Safe Mode
Cannot invoke the profile manager from the Start prompt in Vista
Tried to uninstall and reinstall TB, but get a new message that says TB is already running in the background but I do not see it in the task manager.

[*] Tried to backup the data using MozBackup when I first saw the issue, but cannot seem to find a profile on FF or TB when I try to use MozBackup

I am at my wits end, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use for the "already running" error message. You might need to delete your profiles.ini file and then move the profile per http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder to tell Thunderbird about your profile again. .

I had the same problem and have only just fixed it.

Are you using Eset 4 Business Edition antivirus ???

For whatever reason it was the problem, I cleaned it all up and reinstalled an older version again and TB works fine again

The newer one puts things in TB to filter mail but (it's beyond me why or how) it stops TB from opening although it is loaded in Task Manager !!!

Hope this helps
