Error attaching image link in signature

Post by Guest »

Anyone else have this problem? When I try to have an image in my sig (it's for a good cause - spread firefox), I get this error:

"There was a problem including the file "blah" in the message. Would you like to continue sending the message without this file?"

Can you post your sig? Place your sig between [code]your sig[/code] BBCode.

Exactly as stated in the spread firefox site... and it renders correctly as you compose it (i.e. you can see the sig and image as it should appear as you type it)., it's just as you try to send it that it fails...

Or I could actually read your post, here is the code:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=15653&t=86"><img border="0" alt="Get Firefox!" title="Get Firefox!" src="http://spreadfirefox.com/community/images/affiliates/Buttons/125x50/takebacktheweb_125x50.png"/></a>

I expected this to happen :-D

Strange, I get the same error as you do. I can send a message with this sig if I make the Firefox image a remote image, that is I do not send it with the message, but I the image is displayed from the mozilla server. This is the code to do this:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=15653&t=86"><img
  border="0" alt="Get Firefox!" title="Get Firefox!"
  src="http://spreadfirefox.com/community/images/affiliates/Buttons/125x50/takebacktheweb_125x50.png"
  moz-do-not-send="true"/>
</a>

Another solution is to download the image to your hard drive and link in your sig to the image on your hard drive. The image will be send embedded in the message:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=15653&t=86"><img
  border="0" alt="Get Firefox!" title="Get Firefox!"
  src="file:///path/to/takebacktheweb_125x50.png"/>
</a>

Hope this helps.

Yep, it's fixed, I just assumed Thunderbird kept it as a remote image, thanks for the help.

You have to select a plain text file in the "Attach this signature". This plain text file must have a .html extension and in this file you put the code from my previous post.

See the knowlegde base for more info about signatures: http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?t ... Signatures

cheers,

A

not sure if your interested, but here is the final sig that worked nicely. i've placed all the logo pics on my hard drive, so if anyone wanted to do the same, they'd have to find the logos they wanted to use and change what i've done. but thanks to joeron p externally linking is fairly easy too!)

Code: Select all

I have read all these posts. I don't think I'm stupid but there is something that I am just not getting. When I try to link to the FF or TB "spread the word" buttons it just comes out in raw html. I've fiddled and fiddled with it. Any thoughts?

Reply to above:
Are you saving your sig as a separate .html file??

Surely the easiest way is to let TB do the HTML
Copy the code for the FF image you want.
Open TB - Write, Type in any text you wish to be part of your signature.
Go to - Edit - Select all.
Then go to Insert - HTML.
In the window that opens place your curser where you wish the image to be and paste in the copied code.
Select all and copy.
Next open Notepad or a similar simple text editor and paste in the HTML.
Then save, making sure that you give it a HTML ext. (Signature. html) for example.
Then do the usual in TB, that is go to Account Settings and follow the procedure.
