I read the helpful and well written article "sharing address books" and tried to apply
the knowledge within to sync with my funambol account.
Unfortunately the article referes to funambol and sync lcients which will not load into thunderbird version 3, so
perhaps that deserves a footnote?

Are there syncml clients that do work with thunderbird 3?

Version 3.0 has only been out a short time. It is possible that the required extensions may be updated to be compatible at some point in the future.

So, it's now 8 months later. Is there any movement on getting a Funambol extension that will work with TB3.07 Linux Ubuntu 10.04x64 or even 10.10x64?

The lack of Funambol (or syncml in any form) support for Thunderbird 3 is inexplicable, a state that is almost rife for a good conspiracy theory. Is Thunderbird such a niche tool? Does nobody need this capability? Is only MS Outlook worth using, since only Outlook (and other proprietary calendaring applications) have robust synchronization abilities (without which a calendaring application has no use - or perhaps its okay to print out your calendar ever day and stuff the pages into your pocket for reference under way?)). What does that leave us to conclude? Has Open Source failed us?

Er, maybe the developer of the extension has just decided that he didn't want to bother with it? Have you contacted him?

There is a new release of funambol available here https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/249323/ which sync successfully my contacts and my calendar on Thunderbird 3.1.6 (Ubuntu 10.10) with my.funambol.com server. I think you should give it a try ;-)
