Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.

Windows 7 home premium I have tried most of the solutions suggested at this link http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use#End_processes.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled thunderbird a few times and of course restarted after each instillation. So suffice to say I am really out of ideas here.

Have you tried starting Thunderbird in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
You don't detail which solutions you did try. Did you try deleting the Parent.lock file?
