myway and freepops ?

Post by guestusertb »

Hello

I am trying to make myway work with tb and freepops. No joy - in fact the same with yahoo as well. If this is better posted on the freepops forum please advise.

Here goes with the question - I installed freepops and then started it and the li'l gree icon appears. Then I set uptbird, pop, server = localhost, port = 2000, and each time I try to retrieve messages I get:

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server localhost responded: UNKNOWN ERROR, PLEASE FIX

The interesting thing is that this message occurs even if I change the password deliberately to something incorrect, which leads me to presume that the password I am putting in does not ever get to the myway server. Same thing happens with yahoo. Have I missed something blindingly obvious ?

It might be the username. If that doesn't help enable POP3 logging and look in the log file afterwards to see whether or not Thunderbird managed to actually make a tcp-ip connection to the mail server, did it manage to negotiate what capabilities to use and then try to login. Knowing at what stage in the process an error occurred helps debug whats wrong.

You could enable freepop's built-in logging instead if you wanted, but its easier to get help if you post a snippet from Thunderbird's log file.
