Copy cells from Excel to Mail

Post by bop2 »

Hi,

since version 9.0.1 I cannot properly copy cells from Excel to mail. It is always inserted as picture. In older versions was it the table.
How can I change this behaviour to the old one?
It is the same with Excel 2007 and 2010.

Copy over Word is not working, because from Word is no table inseted, just the text. :-(
Copy over OpenOffice.org ist also a picture.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

yes, this is the same in Safe Mode.
I tried it at PC with Windows XP + Excel 2007 and at Notebook with Windows 7 + Excel 2010.
Safe Mode do not helped, the reason is also not an Add-ons.

Well, yes, that is what Safe Mode is supposed to determine.

Are you composing your messages in HTML format? Check that under Tools->Account Settings->Composition & Addressing.

I have also the same problem since new version 9.0.1.
I cannot properly copy a table from Excel to email. It is always inserted as picture.
It is very embarrassing. Can Mozilla restore this possibility ?

florianfrance, this forum is not run by or formally associated with Mozilla. We're an independent user community. Have you tried pasting the data into the composition window with Thunderbird in Mozilla Safe Mode?

I just experimented to confirm my earlier impression and find that I have no problem copying a a table from Excel 2010 to the composition window of Thunderbird. It is clearly a table in Thunderbird and not an image because it is possible to change the values in the cells of the table in Thunderbird.

but I tried TB 9.0.1 English Portable and it was the same. Select cells, Ctrl C, switch to TB composition window and Ctrl V and image is inserted.

I'm unable to reproduce this either, copying from Excel 2010 on Windows 7 into either 9.0.1 or 12.0a1 pastes as a table as desired, so does LibreOffice Calc 3.3 into a Linux 9.0.1 build.

That's puzzling, the only idea coming into my mind is that something goes wrong with the HTML part and isn't allowed to paste, thus the bitmap representation is taken as the fallback and consequently pastes as an image.

Go into Tools > Error Console and click "Clear", make sure "All" is selected. Then try pasting a table into the open HTML mail-composition window. Do you see any error/warning message show up which may indicate what happens?

Also, on Windows XP, there is a utility CLIPBRD which you can invoke from Start > Run. You can check the HTML representation there if it appears broken in any way.

I tried it, but there is nothing. No error, no warning, even no message.

In CLIPBRD is only text.

There should be nothing wrong with clipboard, because I can copy cells from Excel to Openoffice and in Notepad++.

I habe the same behaviour on Windows 7 + Excel 2010.
It is also not the problem of Excel, because I cannot copy Openoffice-cells to Thunderbird, it is also a picture.
