Since updating to Thunderbird 10.0 (yesterday 01/02/2012) I cannot send emails but can receive them does anybody know what is wrong?
This is the message I get when I try to send an email
Send message error
Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: SMTP server smtp.tiscali.co.uk is unknown. The server may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: cannot send email but can receive
What settings do you have entered for the SMTP server for that account?
* Without divulging your e-mail address or account name, what are your server settings, including server name, port number, and choices for "Connection security" and "Authentication method" under Tools>Account Settings>Outgoing Server (SMTP) (at the bottom of the list of accounts on the left)>*server*>Edit?

Re: cannot send email but can receive
Most of my accounts have now sorted themselves out but my hotmail.co.uk still cannot send using Thunderbird 10
settings as follows;
description Microsoft Live Hotmail
server name smtp.live.com
port 587
connection security STARTTLS
authentication method normal password
my other hotmail accounts (hotmail.com) use port 25 and the description is <not specified>
hope this helps

Re: cannot send email but can receive
What error message are you getting when trying to send through that Hotmail account?
Do you have the full email address entered as the user name for the hat Hotmail SMTP server?

Re: cannot send email but can receive
Check the Junk folder on Hotmail and check the Sent folder in Thunderbird. If you find the outgoing message in Thunderbird's Sent folder it means that Thunderbird handed the message off to the SMTP server. What happens to it after that is out of Thunderbird's control. It's possible that a spam filter is stopping it somewhere along the route.

You're welcome. Did you determine what the problem was?

Re: cannot send email but can receive
Probably your problem is related to STARTTLS authentication and Thunderbird 10.0.
