We're concidering rolling out Thunderbird 1.0.2 as our corporate email client. Before we can do this, we need to employ some form of centralised configuration (we've got over 3500 email clients). I've tried putting the autoadmin.global_config_url and autoadmin.refresh_interval preferences in the user.js file but it does nothing. It's definately seeing the settings because they are being written into the prefs.js file but no request is being made to the Web Server. Can anyone deny or confirm that these preferences work in Thunderbird?

I'm not sure Support is the best place for your query. I don't have answers for you, but let me suggest a few places for you to check (if you have not already):

- the knowledge base
- the forum search
- other TB forums: Features comes to mind

What you are attempting is laudable, but I do not know how many others have tried it.

Take a look at the mozptch tool at

You might also want to read

The mailnews.js file in the defaults\pref subdirectory of the thunderbird program directory contains default values for most preferences. There is no mention of any autoadmin preference there, or in the list from the the about:config extension. I suspect you're referring to a preference used by Mozilla autoconfig, which probably doesn't work with Thunderbird. ... ig-en.html
