TB as Outlook replacement

Post by required_alias »

Don't know if this is the proper forum or not. Hope so.
I am QUITE tired of using Outlook. I have started researching TB as a replacement and it comes very close except for the Outlook database.
Is there a way to import the Outlook databases into TB?

You can import email, account settings and address books from Outlook's .pst file to Thunderbird using the built-in import wizard, as long as Outlook is still installed and working. Thunderbird doesn't know how to parse a .pst file, it makes a MAPI call to Outlook to ask it for that data. That wizard should run automatically the first time you run Thunderbird, if not, use tools -> import to launch it.

Thanks. I've found how to do Contacts, email calendar. What I'm lacking is importing Notes and Databases. If I can do that, I can drop Outlook completely.

Thunderbird uses several SQLite databases and there is a SQLite manager add-on to let you manage SQLite databases, but its GUI is probably not as integrated/powerful as what you're used to. See http://db-engines.com/en/system/Microso ... s%3BSQLite

There are several add-ons that let you add notes to messages such as Notes++ but its not compatible with Outlook Notes. There is also an add-on that lets you edit existing messages - Header Tools Lite.

Bummer. Any suggestions on a good relatively simple database app? As for notes, I want to keep notes. I'll never ADD them to anything. Maybe another stand-alone notes app.

If you were using Linux I'd suggest Kexi.
