One of my IMAP Accounts is not working

Post by CardCaptor »

Hi recently one of my imap accounts with gmail stop working. It throws this error:

Image

That translates:
The current operation 'Inbox' didn't work. The server for the account xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com responded: Unknown command ...
I've check the gmail account permits to less secure apps, and imap. They're all activated.

I've deleted the account, and when adding it again it sticks in sending login information to server, the gmail window never popups.

I've created an imap debug log, but i don't understand whats wrong

http://www.mediafire.com/download/svmxc ... 0_1110.log

Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad English.

It looks like your log file is intermingling the results of two different Gmail IMAP accounts. One is prefaced by 4092[faee1d0]:, the other by 6092[faed600]:. The 4092[faee1d0]: account doesn't seem to have any problems. The other one logs in and then the namespace command fails.

Line 50: 6092[faed600]: login succeeded
Line 51: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:SendData: 3 namespace
Line 53: 6092[faed600]: ReadNextLine [stream=12057b50 nb=59 needmore=0]
Line 54: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 2 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

That probably is why the subsequent commands to retrieve a list of folders using the XLIST command fail. Thunderbird really should have reported that error, rather than a subsequent error. I suspect it actually reported the error when it attempted to list the contents of the inbox (which occurs after the xlist commands)

Line 64: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:SendData: 5 xlist "" "%"
Line 75: 6092[faed600]: ReadNextLine [stream=12057b50 nb=39 needmore=0]
Line 76: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 5 BAD Unknown command g7mb37587394uag
Line 78: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:SendData: 6 xlist "" "%/%"
Line 80: 6092[faed600]: ReadNextLine [stream=12057b50 nb=39 needmore=0]
Line 81: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 6 BAD Unknown command g7mb37587394uag
Line 83: 6092[faed600]: 11a64800:imap.gmail.com:NA:SendData: 7 list "" "*"

Here is an example from a log file I created where the command succeeded:

Line 1188: 2016-03-31 11:01:08.378000 UTC - 8100[13e0a430]: 127a0000:imap.gmail.com:A:SendData: 3 namespace
Line 1235: 2016-03-31 11:01:08.427000 UTC - 8100[13e0a430]: ReadNextLine [stream=128e64c0 nb=32 needmore=0]
Line 1236: 2016-03-31 11:01:08.427000 UTC - 8100[13e0a430]: 127a0000:imap.gmail.com:A:CreateNewLineFromSocket: * NAMESPACE (("" "/")) NIL NIL
Line 1238: 2016-03-31 11:01:08.428000 UTC - 8100[13e0a430]: ReadNextLine [stream=128e64c0 nb=14 needmore=0]
Line 1239: 2016-03-31 11:01:08.428000 UTC - 8100[13e0a430]: 127a0000:imap.gmail.com:A:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 3 OK Success

A personal namespace prefix is needed to allow email clients to work correctly with the wide variety of IMAP servers available. The namespace command is optional, its used to let a email client discover the correct prefix without the user having to configure that information. The subsequent commands failed because that information was not obtained, and there was no attempt at a workaround by providing a default value.

The namespace command did not fail due to bad arguments, it failed due to some credential problem. The only other credentials (than your accounts login) that I can think of is if you had tried to select a folder in another users mailbox, or didn't have the necessary ACL to use a public folder. But the error occurred way too soon for that. A captcha would be another possibility. You could clear that by logging into the appropriate gmail webmail account, and then trying Thunderbird again. However, you said "I've check the gmail account permits to less secure apps, and imap. They're all activated." which implies you've managed to log into webmail after seeing the problem.

I suggest you compare "server settings -> advanced" for the two accounts.

I have exactly the same problem, just on this computer. I have two Gmail accounts. Both used to work. The second account gives the error: The current operation on 'inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account xxxxx.gmail.com responded: Unknown command r190mb59411700vke.
I deleted then reinstated the account and checked that all of the parameters are the same for each account. I have no problem logging in and using it online. I am using release 45.7.1 of Thunderbird, but was using a previous version when this began. I am running the latest version of Windows 10. I see no mention of this in the error console dialogue, although there are many errors, mostly having to do with the calendar.
I do not fully understand your response to the original poster - what are you suggesting that I do to fix this? Does the Firefox cache have anything to do with it? Is there another cache?
Thanks, jfsamuels

It is now July 19 and I have never been able to correct the problem with one of my IMAP Yahoo accounts. Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks, John Samuels
