Quicktext addon incompatible with TB 45
The popular Quicktext extension is not compatible with TBird 45. Under v 45 Quicktext will not load your saved text files.
This is being discussed on the author's forum here, where a fix to Quicktext is being discussed, without the participation of the author. A patch is presented but I haven't taken the time to study it and see how to apply it.
For now, I've uninstalled TBird 45 and reinstalled TBird 38.7.2 and my Quicktext is back to working as expected.

Yes, I know. Same as in the author's forum, already mentioned, "but I haven't taken the time to study it and see how to apply it". Once I figure this out, I might give it a go.

Re: Quicktext addon incompatible with TB 45
Have now taken the time to study the patch and have installed it. Seems to be working fine with first tests.
So have updated TBird back to v45 and all seems to be well.

I patched mine via the instructions in that bugzilla thread. For those who don't want to apply the patch themselves, here's a downloadable patched version from the author of the patch: http://mesquilla.net/betas/quicktext-20160419.xpi

Nice, but how do I install an .xpi file? I downloaded it, and it is stored in the TB programme directory, which contains quite a few files with name ending ".xpi". I presume I have to rename the just downloaded version to one (but WHICH?) of the names present...makaiguy wrote:I patched mine via the instructions in that bugzilla thread. Don't rename anything. In Thunderbird use menu path Tools->Addons->click on the "Gear" icon->click on "Install add-on from file->navigate to the location of the downloaded .xpi file->select it and click on the "Open" button.

HHahn:
Downloading a add-on to the program directory probably doesn't hurt, but its a unnecessary risk. I suggest you uninstall the current Quicktext using tools -> add-ons -> extensions, restart Thunderbird and then install the new one normally (left click on the gear like icon in the upper right corner of tools -> add-ons -> extensions and select "install add-on from file").

Re: Quicktext addon incompatible with TB 45
Easiest way for me is to bring up TBird and navigate to Tools | Add-Ons | Extensions.
In another window, navigate to the folder/directory into which you downloaded the extension (xpi file).
Drag the xpi file across to the TBird window and drop it there.
Follow the prompts.

Re: Quicktext addon incompatible with TB 45
Thanks to all for the good information and the patch. I will try to install before i upgrade to TB 45. A question - Will QuickText quit working when Thunderbird upgrades from 45 to the next version?

Re: Quicktext addon incompatible with TB 45
I am using Quicktext 0.9.11.7 under Thunderbird 52.1.1 running on Windows XP. I can't seem to move the templates up or down within that group. I have left and right clicked on the template, used a combination of shift, alt, ctrl and caps to no avail. How do you move the templates up or down. The only thing showing is to Remove it.
Thanks in advance
Bob
