no updates

Post by DWFII »

I have been using TB for some years now...on three different computers. On one computer, running Win 7x64, TB seems to be stuck on version 12.0.1 despite having automatic updates enabled. I have occasionally gotten error messages, IIRC, stating that TB has checked for updates but could not DL or update itself.

I see from another Win 7x64 box that TB is now on version 45...just got that update successfully this morning.

How can I update my version 12 TB without losing my configurations and so forth?--I want to update not reinstall.

Hi,
I'd be backing up your Profile....JIC.
ref; > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Then, D/L'ing the full version & running it. (Of course...choose your preferred version.)

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

Just download and run the installer for version 45. It won't touch your profile but you can backup your data before runinng the installer to be extra careful.

You can get it at FileHippos ( http://filehippo.com/download_thunderbi ... c5e947eca/ ) for now as the regular download site from Mozilla is still offering only version 38.x.

I'm sorry, I meant where can I find the data directory of my current version to back up?

See this article and refer to the section on manually backing up the data -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Thunderbird 45.0 is being served on https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/all/ and the Tb 38.7.2 is at https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird ... 7.2/win32/

No need to go to unofficial random download sites for any Thunderbird Release ;)

Actually I see why you got served Tb 38.5.0 38.7.0, it is the WinXP (NT 5.1) and Vista (NT 6.0) users that is getting served the Tb 38.5.0 38.7.2 due to the signing of the setups in which they can update to 45.0.

Ah, OK. I thought that only applied to Win XP and was being offered 38.5.0 when trying to download from https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/all/ using this Vista system. I tried to go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ earlier and it was timing out. No problem there now, other than not being shown version 46 because the server is finding Vista in the UA.

Windows Vista users can run the newer version setups since signing fine if system is kept adequately updated, however there is no way to tell by default browser UA's on Vista if they have updates like KB2763674 installed. So it was decided to serve a version that all Vista (and WinXP) users can install and then update from.
