Thunderbird won't launch

Post by doveman »

I updated my Mum's Thunderbird Portable to 45.x last week as she was having trouble sending e-mails with attachments, so I thought I'd see if the update fixed that.

I don't think it fixed that problem but TB was launching properly after the update but now it isn't. I see Thunderbird in Task Manager but the window doesn't appear. I did find that deleting parent.lock got it to work but it still wasn't deleting that file when I closed TB, so I had to delete that file each time but now even with it deleted TB won't launch.

I also installed non-portable Thunderbird, copied the portable Data folder to another location and edited profiles.ini to point to that copy folder but that had the same problem and wasn't deleting parent.lock when I closed TB.

The only thing that seems to work consistently is logging out and then back in to Windows.

See if the troubleshooting section in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use helps.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Running_from_ ... hunderbird for how to specify the profles location using a command line argument. Try that with the non-portable version to see if the problem was your profiles.ini file.
