Usually I can change the font color when writing an email.
The last few days when I put in #CC6633 (my favorite pink)
it shows a stale, blah, pinkish taupe. So I tried another pink
number and it shows the same blah color.
Do you know how I can fix this?

Nope. I'd assume its either due to an add-on (unlikely but possible) or due to some other HTML you added. However I entered #CC6633 at http://www.color-hex.com/color-wheel/ and it shows a taupe color. Are you sure you are using the right hex value?
