Re-Index/Repair msgs of a certain msg folder (tree)?

Post by pstover »

The messages inside a certain msg folder are not displayed (any more).

All other messages in all other folders and accounts are shown correctly.
So I guess there are some errors esspecial in one or more messages of this folder.
The folder contains a huge amount of messages (> 10000) and was previously restored.
But this shouldn't be a problem.

How can I re-index resp. repair this underlying mbox file?

In a second case the corresponding *.msf file for a message file is missing. How can I re-create it?

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

1. First backup your profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
Close Thunderbird and navigate to your Profile Folder ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder ). Find the files for the folder in question with the same name as the folder, such as Inbox and Inbox.msf for the Inbox folder. Delete the file with the MSF extension. Restart Thunderbird, compact all folders, and see if things are back to normal.
If this procedure provides no improvement, see this link -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recover_messa ... upt_folder

2. Thunderbird should automatically recreate the .msf file for any folder when that folder is accessed. If that has not happened there is probably a problem with that folder. Does this involve a standard Thunderbird folder (Inbox, Trash, Drafts, Templates, Junk, etc.) or a user created folder?
