Sent email does not appear in sent folder

Hi,
I sent an email with a PDF attachment. The sending process was completed. Also it displayed that the email was copied to the sent folder (bar reached 100%).
The email does not appear in any folder. I tried the sending process twice.
Unfortunately it was an important business email and I don't know if it was sent or not. Is there a way to figure out? Why does the email not appear in any folder in Thunderbird?

* How is that mail account set up, as POP or IMAP?
* Who is your mail provider? Your ISP, corporate e-mail system or Web-based?
* Are other sent messages appearing properly in the Sent folder?
* If you send a test message with that PDF file to yourself, do you receive it?

Other sent messages appear properly. Maybe it has to do with the size of the attachment.
I tested if the email with the attachment is sent - and that is working fine. However it does not appear in the folder. As long as it is sent I can live with this problem.. :-) Thank you for you reply!
