Well this is about the simplest (Hopefully) question I believe I've ever asked on here... When I open TB, instead of the message pane
coming up first, it opens with the generic blue page. This started happening after I was trying out another mail client.

By "generic blue page" do you mean the "Welcome to Thunderbird" page or something else?
In either case, make sure that under menu path Tools->Options->General the option "When Thunderbird launches, sown the Start Page in the message area" is not checked.
