How to block unwanted e-mail

Is there a way to block unwanted e-mails,ex I get emails from Facebook all the time,sometimes up to 6 times a day and
I wonder it there is a way to avoid them.
I appreciate your help

Use a message filter to either automatically delete them or move them to your junk folder. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_Filters for more information.

"From" "contains" "facebook" with a "move message to" action would work, though you could select "match all of the following", press the '+' sign and add something like "From" "isn't in my address book" "personal address book" if you want to handle exceptions.

You could also enable adaptive junk mail controls for the account in the junk mail settings, and train it to recognize anything from facebook as junk. That will take much longer as you normally need both 100 "good" messages and 100 "bad" messages for it to learn. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls

You can also stop those at the source. The settings you need are under the notifications section of settings on Facebook.
