Restore/import one folder

I recently imported all data from Outlook Express. All folders (over a hundred) were imported with all data except one. I discovered one empty folder after using the new system for a week so there is new data in Thunderbird which would be lost if I simply imported the folders again. How do I restore this one folder only? I have tried putting it alone in another folder and the import seems to be unsuccessful - ie the import process stalls after choosing the folder to use with the next and back buttons greyed out and only the cancel available. If I cancel then I see the folder in my list but it is empty.
