Re: Thunderbird fails to produce obvious search results
I have similar problems with TB search. Fortunately gmail search, and even yahoo search, through it's web (http) portal are far superior. Otherwise, I would be SOL.

Not sure how those are helpful to you when searching for a message in Thunderbird which is stored on the local system.onix wrote: Fortunately gmail search, and even yahoo search, through it's web (http) portal are far superior. Otherwise, I would be SOL.
Yes, I saw that, but I'm afraid it doesn't help me to identify any additional options for you.BeeSkeptical wrote:POP.

Thanks for those who tried to help.
Be it know to anyone following this thread:
Thunderbird's indexing feature is hopelessly defective. It simply will not reliably index your email. If that is a service you need, do NOT rely on Thunderbird.

I don't deny that that has been your experience but is not what I have found in my use of Thunderbird.

Re: Thunderbird fails to produce obvious search results
If you have a gmail account, do a search of a particularly specific term, and see how it compares on the web using google's own search, and via thunderbird. Use a term like "mosquitos" or search for a specific person...DanRaisch wrote:I don't deny that that has been your experience but is not what I have found in my use of Thunderbird.
google through gmail is always better.

Re: Thunderbird fails to produce obvious search results
That would be comparing apples to oranges as with a POP type Gmail account in Thunderbird, Google doesn't have access to the local data.

Re: Thunderbird fails to produce obvious search results
Hi,
I have the same problem using TB 52.2.1 under MacOS.
I have deleted the global-messages-db.sqlite and afther this Thunderbird is "determining witch messages to be indexed in Sent Items" (sorry for my translation from Spanish version).
After 24 h. it continues still determining, and the global-messages-db.sqlite file got stuck in 1,2MB (the original was 170MB)
I manage 7 IMAP mail accounts, and all the sent folders are about 3GB.
Any help will be apreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I think the problem could be Thunderbird Conversations add-on!!!
Please if you are using it, deactivate, restart and try to rebuild the index.
It worked for me.
Juan

Re: Thunderbird fails to produce obvious search results
lesta,
Thanks for the suggestion. I rely heavily on conversation mode. If I disable it, and my messages are taken out of conversation, can they be restored to conversation after I try to rebuild the index?
