New messages are suddenly not in Bold

For the past few days, I'm finding messages I have never seen marked as read. i.e. they are no longer in bold. Where is the setting where I make sure that new messages remain in bold until I have read them?

Check the setting for tools -> options -> display -> advanced -> reading

Thank you - but what do I do when I get to 'reading'?

If its set to "immediately on display" either select "after displaying for X seconds" instead or uncheck "automatically mark messages as read".
