The POP3 mail server does not support UIDL or XTND XLST

Post by Lukus »

Thunderbird 52.0.1 has been giving me this error lately:

The POP3 mail server (pop.broadband.rogers.com) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST.

The error only seems to appear if I click on Get Messages. When I first start Thunderbird, it retrieves the messages fine. Later on, when I suspect I am no longer receiving any new messages, I click on Get Messages and the error pops up. It would appear an error occurred at some point, preventing new emails to be fetched, but no error were displayed until I pressed Get Messages.

Usually restarting Thunderbird solves the problem temporarily but eventually the problem returns. I can see all the messages fine if I log into the webmail.

I don't think the problem is with the mail server as we have 2 computers monitoring the same general email account and the error only occurs on the same computer. Both computers use Thunderbird.

Any ideas what could be causing this error?

The Yahoo POP server periodically has this problem. That's one of the reasons why we recommend using IMAP instead. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Yahoo#The_POP ... ND_or_XLST
