Hi all,
I am using Thunderbird 45.8.0 in IMAP mode. I delete an email from my inbox using the delete icon. I then drag and drop that email back to the inbox from trash. I delete it again from my inbox and the number of items in the trash increase by one as you would expect. However, when I open the trash folder the relevant email disappears never to be seen again without me doing anything else.
Is there a setting I am missing?

You might be running into the setting that automatically compacts your folders due to how much space has been wasted. Is the entire trash folder empty? However, why do you care? I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish by repeatably deleting and undeleting a message.
I suggest you read http://kb.mozillazine.org/Deleting_mess ... P_accounts . It would be much easier if you chose Tools -> Account Settings -> Account_Name -> Server Settings -> "When I delete a message" -> "Mark it as deleted" if you are going to repeatably toggle a messages delete status.
