Exporting messages
Using Thunderbird 52.1.0 running under macOS 10.12.4 Sierra.
I have about 8000 messages in about 150 sub-folders in a simple folder hierarchy. I want to export all these messages in MBOX format. There does not appear to be an inbuilt way to do this, so is there some kind of add-on or utility that will do this for me?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Exporting messages
Thank you, Limpet235. That extension seems just what I need and I have downloaded it.
The web page you showed a link for tells me: in Thunderbird, go in "Tools" --> "Addons" (or "Extensions") and click on "Install"
In 52.1.0 the menu option under Tools is Add-ons. It takes me to the Add-ons Manager tab, where there is no Install option.

Right click on the link on Paolo's page and select "Save link as" to download the .xpi file. Then, in Thunderbird, use menu path Tools->Addons->Extensions->click on the "Gear" icon and select "Install add-on from file" navigate to the downloaded .xpi file, select it and click "Open".

Thank you, DanRaisch.
There is no menu option Extensions below Add-ons. Remember I'm using Using Thunderbird 52.1.0 as set out in my original posting. The specification appearing at the foot of my posts is inaccurate.

Re: Exporting messages
Sorry, you're running a Mac so the menu path is different from what I see in Windows. Check out Thunderbird → Preferences, then check for Add-ons->Extensions.

Thanks but it's in Preferences. I checked that before posting.

Sorry - finger trouble. I meant: Thanks but it's not in Preferences.

Ah, I see. Extensions is not in a conventional menu, but in the drop-down list under the little cogwheel at right. Merci, Eckard.

No. "Extensions" is not in the drop-down list under the cogwheel:wordwise wrote:Ah, I see. Extensions is not in a conventional menu, but in the drop-down list under the little cogwheel at right. Merci, Eckard.
To display "Extensions" you have to go to the menu "Tools" and click on "Add-ons".
This will open the "Add-ons Manager" in a new tab in which you must click on "Extensions" in the left (category) pane.

Re: Exporting messages
The cogwheel list worked for me, Eckard, and the add-on has installed. Only problem is, it does not seem to support what I want to do. I have contacted the developer.

Hi,
What are you trying to accomplish?
Why did you say...."It did not work?"
Perhaps if you explained it all in here?

Re: Exporting messages
If those messages are in Thunderbird, are they not already in mbox format? What, specifically are you trying to accomplish? What is your purpose for this export?
