TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
Hi
Yesterday TB updated to 52.1.1 (32-bit). Since then, nearly every time I have tried to forward, reply or write a new mail (whether directly or from a link) TB has crashed. I am sending crash reports every time. Very frustrating.
Can you advise if others are having this problem & whether I should revert to 52.1.0 (& if so, how do I do that? Can I just download the file & install?)
Is there a 64-bit version & if so, is that more stable?
I am running Win 10 Home, 64-bit v 1607. Not got Creators update yet.
16GB RAM
Thanks

if it did exist, it would have the same issue

1. please post your crash ID(s) per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mo ... sh-reports
2. after you provide your crash ID, test, does starting in safe mode stop the crashing? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sa ... hunderbird
not in a release version

Hi
Update on where I'm at.
Have been running TB in safe mode & then tried enabling add ons 1 at a time. Thought I had narrowed the problem down to MMS Autocorrect.
Today, updated again to 52.1.1 & TB very quickly crashed again, with NO add ons enabled.

What good is your crash report, if we don't have the crash ID from you?

no, I do not know Debskinner. I checked that Thunderbird was up to date, which it confirmed. Then I read something about version 53, went on to the website and downloaded that. It actually downloaded a version 54 beta. This version seems to be a lot better and I will let you know as to whether this Also crashes. The crashes were extremely predictable, write one email, crash the second email, without fail.

Re: TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
I have the same problem. I had to disable ALL my add-ons. Now it doesnt crash. I've been googling about crashing with 52.1.1 and there are many many complains in add-on reviews that that add-on stops working or caused crashes since 52.1.1. Something in 52.1.1 doesnt play nice with something common in add-ons so if you use an old add-on that doesnt update much, that might be your problem.
Very frustrating as some of the add-ons I use are old and not being updated. There are no other add-ons that do what I need Thunderbird to do. So for now I'll install an old version of TBird like 48.something to get my functionality back and if I have no other TBird solution that fixes back compatibility with old add-ons or my old addons that I -NEED- (like attachment extractor) start working I'll have to find a new email solution. Sucks as I was very happy with TBird until this update.

Re: TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an ... hunderbird if you'd like to go back to a older version of Thunderbird such as 45.8.0, the last update to the prior major version.
The attachment extractor add-on web page has comments about the latest version causing crashes. There is a development section at the bottom of the web page that has a download link for a beta version. I suggest you try it (Version 1.4b1321741953). Supposedly its a complete code rewrite. Unfortunately the developer has discontinued work on the add-on.

Re: TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
Thanks for the quick reply. The 1.4 beta of attachment extractor was the only one working in 4x.x TBird updates. Now in 52.1.1 it causes crashes and cant be used at all.
"Custom Buttons" and "Toolbar Buttons", the only other add-ons I use, also dont work in 52.1.1 and while I can wait for the developers to fix those to work with 52.1.1, I cant live without an automatic way to download attachments. I've been searching for another add-on that will do that, no luck.

Re: TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
Given that you were crashing several times in one day, you should be able to report results within 24hrs :)siebold wrote:no, I do not know Debskinner. Your crash does list many addons, so I would bet one of your addons causes the crash

Re: TB 52.1.1 crashes all the time
hi wsmwk, so far so good. Version 54 Beta seems to be a lot better. I have not had a crash since. Well done for fixing it in the new version. Let's hope it stays that way
