You might also consider changing the prefs mentioned in this FX thread:

Re: Cannot disable auto update
Hi all,
Despite implementing all of the suggestions in this thread, I am continuing to have my stable TB 45.8.0 install updated automatically to the totally malfunctioning 52.1.1 revision. This new revision has now:
1) Lost emails and folders
2) Crashes on a regular basis, several times a day and submitted crash reports.
3) Loads emails v e r y s l o w l y.
4) Shows some emails as a snippet of bitmap from the menu bar...or as a black window.
I have been a TB user since rev 0.5 or so, and this new 52.1.1 release is the first one to malfunction on the many systems I have used it on. I desperately need a stable email client for my business and may have to change if this one cannot be fixed...or if I can't make it stay at 45.8.0.
Anybody have any final suggestions?
Thank you.

Re: Cannot disable auto update
You could install SeaMonkey and just use the email client. It's the same as Thunderbird.

Re: Cannot disable auto update
Here is a possible factor: I am using Win7Ultimate 64-bit, and About Mozilla Thunderbird states: 52.1.1 (32-bit) and it STILL states that I am on the release update channel.

Re: Cannot disable auto update
So to clarify the query in my last post, is the installer supposed to determine whether a 64 or 32 bit version is needed to be installed, and did it accidentally install the 32 bit version on my 64 bot Win OS?

Re: Cannot disable auto update
There is no official 64 bit build for TB. All versions are 32 bit, for now.hhoyt2 wrote:So to clarify the query in my last post, is the installer supposed to determine whether a 64 or 32 bit version is needed to be installed, and did it accidentally install the 32 bit version on my 64 bot Win OS?
