Scroll bar click used to page down

Post by scrognoid »

Until recently, like every other page scroll UI in the world, I could click on the scroll bar to jump exactly one page to scan messages or news feeds. Now when I click it jumps to corresponds with where I click on the bar. This seems to be true of all panes.

How do I page down? PageDown key goes to next message.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Trying a few reversions, v45.8.0 does not have this problem.

As far as I knew, this behaviour with scroll bars is standard in many (maybe all?) Linux desktop environments. I use MATE also, and it's one of its quirks that bug me, especially in Caja. (For over 20 years in Windows I was constantly clicking inside scroll bars, not just in TB).

However, I noticed that it is the same in Cinnamon and whatever desktop was the default when I tried Ubuntu, so I'm surprised that you would have experienced a Windows-like behaviour in MATE (in this respect).

Did you by any chance recently migrate from Windows to Linux?

I've used Linux for three years now. I seldom boot to Windows any more.

I can't explain our different experiences with Linux. Caja advances one page when I click in the scroll bar. Same with Document Viewer (PDF). Only Mozilla Firefox and TB do the advance to the cursor thing, and that is new behavior. As stated above, I reverted to TB v 45.8.0 and it works as expected.
