How do I send from a different address using a template?

Post by i_am_jim »

I have the send with template working, but it sends from the original To: address. I want it to send from a different personality. How?

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_iden ... il_account

If you have defined a multiple identity (personality) for that account, select it in the From: drop down list box. Templates predefine the contents of the message body, to/cc and the subject but not the From: address. It defaults to the accounts (original) identity.

I'm not sure what you mean. The incoming mail TO: is one of several identities in one account. I am trying to cause the Template be sent from a different account. Are you saying that's not possible, that the from can only be the original incoming TO: address?

Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. I'm doing this in a message filter. The incoming message is moved to a second account and then sent using the "Reply with template" option. Both these steps happen automatically using the filter.

No. You can chose any defined identity (or enter any address if you select Custom From Address at the bottom of the list box) if you did this manually. However, using a message filter with "reply with template" is a problem. I don't know if its possible to automate what you want to do with that limitation.

See if the FiltaQuilla add-on lets you execute some javascript as part of the action, to change the From: identity. http://mesquilla.com/extensions/filtaquilla/

Many email providers support server side filters, that you can figure using the webmail user interface. Usually they're roughly equivalent to what Thunderbird can do , but some are more powerful. For example Fastmail.fm and Runbox.com let you execute Sieve commands (its a real mail filtering language). I suggest you investigate what your email provider offers.

Thanks for your help. I'm not proficient enough at javascript to use that feature.

Do you know if this addon can be used in conjunction with normal/regular filters?

Is there a way to contact the author of that addon?

The add-on extends the built-in functionality of message filters. The link I gave you has a forum tab. One of the forums is for the add-on. The last post seems to be at http://mesquilla.com/forum/filtaquilla/page-16/ .

See if the ThunderLink add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... src=search would be useful.
