Pleasant evening to all.
I'm using Thunderbird 52.2.0 on PCLOS KDE Plasma 5. Whenever I send out emails my computer login name shows up as part of my email address. How can I prevent this happening, please?

I know about a header with your local IP address being added. But I'm not aware of a computer login name ever being added to a From: email address when sending a message. Can you provide some more specifics? It would help if you provided the actual From address it used, but replace just your real username with something obviously generic such as user_name, so that I could see how it was formatted.
Did this problem occur before version 52.2.0?
Does it only occur for one account? If so who is your email provider?
If you select a custom From: address using the dropdown list box when composing a message does the problem also occur?
If you run in safe mode (help -> restart with add-ons disabled) does that have any effect?
Is your computer login name stored in the prefs.js file for some unknown reason? You could search for it directly or via Thunderbird's config editor.

Re: How to remove username from outgoing emails
Here's an example of how the header looks for any of the emails I used -gmail or yahoo: From: pretty<emailaddress@gmail.com> emailaddress@gmail.com I don't want the 'pretty' in there. In the drop down list, they all have the 'pretty' preceding each email address.tanstaafl wrote:https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497901

(note: just examples; not the actual email address or the real login name)
I didn't notice it before 52.2. It could well have been there though.
Ran in safe mode and it's the same.
I found several (a lot) of instances of my login name in the .thunderbird>xxxx.default>prefs.js files: some e.g. I just rewrite these so didn't write all the dots and quotation marks.
Code: Select all
user_pref ("mail.root.imap", "/home/pretty/.thunderbird/xxxxx.default/ImapMail");
user_pref (mail.server.serverx.directory", "/home/pretty/.thunderbird....
user_pref (mail.identity.id1.fullName","pretty"

Click on the sending account name in the left pane.
Click on View settings for this account.
Do you have 'pretty' entered in the Your Name field?

Yes. In the 'Your Name' field there resides my login name.
Can I delete it without compromising T-Bird's operating properly?

Place whatever name you wish to have displayed there.
