Thunderbird start-up - Mailserver port 2080 asking for passw

Post by eshwar-consulting »

On start-up Thunderbird pops up this message:

mail.domain.com:2080 is requesting your username and password. WARNING: Your password will not be sent to the website you are currently visiting.

This started happening last week. Is this a bug or have I been hit by some malware?

I am using Thunderbird 52.1.1 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 14.04.

Why are you trying to connect to a POP or IMAP server via https? You appear to be trying to log into webmail .

Are you using some type of local proxy to connect to the mail server?

No, I am not trying to connect to pop/imap via https. I never had this issue and have done no changes on my Thunderbird for a while and all of a sudden this message started popping up about a week ago on start-up.

I am connecting direct to the internet. No proxy.

See if its due to some add-on that got updated by retesting after "help -> restart with add-ons disabled".

Disabling add-ons stopped that pop-up. Lightning add-on was the one creating the problem. I found that a disabled calendar that I was testing long ago was creating this problem. I have unsubscribed from the calendar (which in any case was not working) and my problem is resolved. Thanks
