Changing Identities

Post by i_am_jim »

Is there a way to change identities for a reply using a filter?

I don't know of a supported way to do that since https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=604574 (Message Filter: Reply with Template does not use Identity specified in the template) is marked RESOLVED WONTFIX . Comment 3 suggests a workaround for most of the bug in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=303310 ("Reply with template" filter always uses default identity instead of per X-Account-Key) . However that second bug has been unassigned for 12 years, though there is a 4 year old comment that a developer thinks one of their patches might have resolved it. I suggest you experiment with the suggestion in comment 3. Keep in mind that even if it works it could easily break again in a future update, and a bug report would probably be closed (if it isn't ignored) due to the won't fix decision I mentioned.

There are filter add-ons such as the one at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... la/?src=ss which let you execute javascript as part of a filter action that you might be able to use to change the From: address to one for a different identity. Or possibly change X-Account-Key instead. But its not clear that the code used to actually send the reply will recognize that the identity has been changed if you do that, since you're essentially doing something behind its back.
