Default account dropped when switching window manager(Linux)

Post by mvv_vmd »

We have a strange issue in a probably rare situation. Our users run Ubuntu 16.04 with Cinnamon on the desktop. Home directories are mounted via cifs. When users log on to a x2go server we use for remote working running XCFE they lose their default mail account in Thunderbird. Usually if you set the account up from Cinnamon again it sticks but not always. Often it also drops the smtp server after that for good measure.

We found that for some reason Thunderbird starts editing the prefs and removes account id 1 entries. Normally account1 is linked to id1 and server1 but this is dropped for some reason. You can edit the prefs also by hand but this never seems to last.

I have no idea why this happens and have not found a way to stop it short from not using x2go with XCFE anymore. Does anyone here have a idea on how to stop this behavior or a suggestion for a workaround?
